Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a Stripe account with Shopify Payments.
To connect ReCharge with your Stripe account, you will need to create a separate Stripe account that's different from the one being used with Shopify Payments. This is because the Stripe has an exclusive deal with Shopify so that account cannot be used for other purposes. Stripe can be connected to multiple stores if they're the same business.
Does Shopify allow multiple payment processors?
For regular transactions, Shopify only allows one payment gateway at a time. ReCharge works because it creates a separate checkout that connects to Shopify via the orders API. However, you can have Braintree and Stripe active on your account at the same time. Contact us if you need to do this.
Will I have to change my existing payment processors?
No, you will not! Payments will only be processed by Stripe when there is a recurring item in the cart. All other times it will go through your existing payment processor
Does Shopify charge an additional transaction fee for recurring payments through ReCharge?
No. Shopify only charges transactions processed directly through its checkout. Recharge processes transactions through a separate checkout and thus isn't affected.
What countries can use ReCharge?
Payments can be accepted from anywhere in the world. Currently, we support most countries in the world via our merchant processors. It is important to make sure your currency is set to the same value on each of your accounts (processing, Shopify, and ReCharge). If your account is set to a different currency than you intended, you will mischarge your customers.
We're working on adding more payment processors in the future. Please let us know which ones you would like to see!
