Do I need to use a discount code to reduce the price of my products?
Discount codes are a great way to offer a temporary promotion. However, you can also adjust the price of your products for new customers and re-adjust pricing for individual customers. We also recommend utilizing Workflows to automate the price change back to the regular recurring price.
Bundles are also an option for Pro merchants on Recharge Checkout on Shopify and Shopify Checkout Integration. Bundles can be used to offer a "build-a-box" experience that can include specified products bundled at a fixed price and offered at a quantity discount.
Can I provide a discount to existing customers as part of the sale?
Yes. You have the option to apply a discount to an existing subscription manually or by applying discount codes in bulk.
Can I offer discounted bundles?
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Shopify Checkout Integration
Yes. Bundles can be set up and configured to offer a discount to subscribers. Discount codes can also be used with bundles.
Can I exclude subscription products from my discount code?
Yes. When creating the discount code, select the one-time products option in product type. This will set the discount code to exclude all subscription items and only be applicable to one-time products.
Can I edit a discount code?
Yes, discount codes can be edited to change their settings. This feature can be used to update a discount after it has been shared with customers. Updates to certain settings depend on the discount type. There are limitations that apply to some of the discount settings you can edit, including the Application limits and Date Range sections.
Can a discount code be automatically added to checkout?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration, can use the Shopify automatic discount feature.
For Recharge Checkout on Shopify, this requires modifications to the Shopify template files. Review applying discount code to checkout automatically to see the scope of these changes.
Automatic discounts are not supported for Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce. You may be able to use an automatic discount with custom coding. We recommend working with a third-party developer and testing the discount before proceeding.
My customers accidentally subscribed at the wrong price, how can I fix this?
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
The wrong price can be fixed with a bulk update by using the bulk managing subscription tool. A maximum of 50,000 records can be used per update. Information to format your CSV file can be gathered by using the Export Builder.
- Shopify Checkout Integration
The wrong price can be fixed by updating the price of products for existing subscriptions with a bulk update. Send the Recharge support team a formatted CSV to complete a pricing bulk update. At least 5 business days are needed for this bulk update to be completed.
Can I change the price of a subscription after the sale?
Workflows are recommended to change the price, since it helps you automate processes that occur after the order is processed through the checkout or for a specific recurring order.
You can also change the price for existing customers by bulk updating with the help of Recharge support or the bulk managing subscription tool.
Can I use Shopify Scripts?
Shopify Scripts are not compatible with the Recharge Checkout on Shopify, but have limited functionality with the Shopify Checkout Integration. There are potential workarounds, but any attempt at deploying Shopify Scripts falls outside the scope of Recharge handling.
Can customers use Shopify Gift Cards?
For the Shopify Checkout integration, Shopify gift cards can be used as a payment method for checkout orders containing subscription products. Customers are still required to provide a regular payment method, to ensure that they are billed for their recurring orders.
There are limitations with Shopify Gift Cards and subscription orders, as follows:
- Gift cards can only be used for checkout orders, not recurring orders. When customers initially purchase a subscription using a gift card, the recurring charges will be processed using their payment method on file.
- The gift card amount is only reflected on the order details in Shopify, it is not reflected on the order in Recharge.
How can I track the performance of my discount code?
If you are on the Recharge Pro plan, review the Discount Code Attribution dashboard to track discount usage. This dashboard has insights into how your discount codes are performing, and tracks customer behaviors when checking out with a discount code. This is located in your merchant portal by going to Analytics and within Reports.
Can I hide subscriptions from my storefront?
Yes, unpublish the subscription widget to disable the subscription option. To do so, click Storefront and select Subscription widget in the merchant portal to open Subscription widget settings. Then click unpublish. Unpublishing the subscription widget controls the visibility of your widget but still keeps the subscription offer on your store. This action does not impact your current subscribers.
Can I create discount codes in bulk?
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Shopify Checkout Integration
The Shopify Discount Import feature can be used for Shopify-created discount codes to be imported to Recharge. This import includes new and updated discount codes, up to a maximum of 100,000 discount codes at a time. To use the import, review which Shopify discount feature is unsupported.
