Setting up shipping for the Shopify Checkout Integration
Setting up proper shipping rates is essential for the health of your business. Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration set up, control, and troubleshoot shipping settings directly within Shopify, and not Recharge. This guide goes through shipping settings for merchants on the Shopify Checkout Integration.
Refer to Shopify’s shipping guides or contact Shopify’s support directly for issues or questions regarding shipping settings with the Shopify Checkout Integration.
- This guide is applicable for merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration. If you use the Recharge Checkout on Shopify or BigCommerce, refer to Configuring shipping settings.
Configure your shipping settings
With the Shopify Checkout Integration, merchants must set up and control shipping rates and settings in the Shopify Admin, and not within Recharge. The following settings are recommended in Shopify:
-
Keep all your shipping rates in your general profile and do not use shipping profiles.
-
Use weight-based rates and use the same rates for both one-time products and subscription products.
Keep in mind that Shopify always selects the cheapest applicable rate for orders. If you want to assign a flat rate for recurring orders, apply a manual rate to your customers in Recharge by clicking switch to a manual rate under the Shipping Method in your merchant portal.
FAQ
What settings do I set in Recharge?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration control their shipping settings in Shopify and do not have access to the Shipping settings page in Recharge. However, you have the ability to override shipping rates for a specific subscription, by manually switching customers' shipping rates. Refer to Override shipping rate for a specific subscription.
Can I set up free shipping with the Shopify Checkout Integration?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration configure shipping via the Shopify shipping settings. For setup details, check out Offering free shipping on subscription orders. To offer free shipping refer to Shopify's article Setting free shipping as the default shipping rate.
Can I update the shipping rate for existing customers?
Yes, however, shipping rates are calculated dynamically, and the new rate will apply to the recurring order after the queued order. This is because the queued order was created before the shipping rate was updated, so the old rate would still apply to the order. To update the rate on the queued order, reach out to Recharge support and we'll help regenerate the upcoming orders.
What happens if I remove a shipping rate or the existing subscriber's order no longer qualifies for a shipping rate?
Your orders will still process and ship even if they do not have any applicable shipping rates. If you would like orders to give an error instead of processing with a $0.00 shipping rate, reach out to Recharge support.
Can I use Shopify Shipping profiles?
It is not recommended to use Shopify Shipping profiles on the Shopify Checkout Integration. While it works on the initial checkout, shipping profiles can lead to discrepancies on recurring charges.
Can I create two separate shipping rates for one product if I offer the same product as both a one-time product and a subscription product via Shopify's subscription shipping API?
While it is on our roadmap to support Shopify's subscription shipping API, we currently do not have a timeline for when this feature will be supported. Refer to the Recharge Changelog for future updates.
Can I change the name of my shipping labels in the checkout?
No. This is a Shopify limitation, Shopify assigns a general title of Shipping to all shipping rates that apply to subscription orders.
Note: Due to a Shopify limitation, checkout orders and recurring orders have different shipping titles. Checkout orders have Subscription Shipping as their shipping title, while recurring orders display the labeled shipping title. This includes shipping titles such as Standard, Expedited, Economy.
