Setting up proper shipping rates is essential for the health of your business. Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration set up, control, and troubleshoot shipping settings directly within Shopify, and not Recharge. This guide goes through shipping settings for merchants on the Shopify Checkout Integration.
Before you start
If you migrated to the Shopify Checkout Integration, Recharge shipping rates may be used for recurring orders depending on your configuration. Refer to Shopify Checkout Integration technical details and requirements for more information.
Configure your shipping settings
Use weight-based rates and use the same rates for both one-time products and subscription products.
- Recharge fully supports price-based rates and when configured, sets minimum and maximum cart values for your flat rate shipping. Refer to Shipping rates for configuration.
Keep in mind that Shopify always selects the cheapest applicable rate for orders. If you want to assign a flat rate for recurring orders, apply a manual rate to your customers in Recharge by clicking manual rate on the shipping method action button.
What settings do I set in Recharge?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration control their shipping settings in Shopify and do not have access to the Shipping settings page in Recharge. However, you have the ability to override shipping rates for a specific subscription, by manually switching customers' shipping rates. Refer to Override shipping rate for a specific subscription.
Can I set up free shipping with the Shopify Checkout Integration?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration configure shipping via the Shopify shipping settings. For setup details, check out Offering free shipping on subscription orders. To offer free shipping refer to Shopify's article Setting free shipping as the default shipping rate.
Can I update the shipping rate for existing customers?
Yes, however, shipping rates are calculated dynamically, and the new rate will apply to the recurring order after the queued order. This is because the queued order was created before the shipping rate was updated, so the old rate would still apply to the order. To update the rate on the queued order, review editing shipping rates for existing subscriptions.
What happens if I remove a shipping rate or the existing subscriber's order no longer qualifies for a shipping rate?
Your orders will still process and ship even if they do not have any applicable shipping rates. If you would like orders to give an error instead of processing with a $0.00 shipping rate, reach out to Recharge support.
Are price-based shipping rates available for recurring orders?
Can I use Shopify Shipping Profiles?
Yes. Shopify Checkout Integration stores can use Shopify Shipping Profiles with Recharge. For more details, see Using Shopify shipping profiles.
Can I use price-based shipping rates?
Use price-based shipping rates with caution. To calculate price-based rates on checkout orders, Shopify uses the one-time product price and does not account for the subscription price. Price-based shipping rates work as expected on recurring orders in Recharge.
Can I offer different shipping rates for subscriptions vs. one-time products?
Yes. If you are interested in offering free shipping on subscriptions and not for one-time products, join our Free Shipping for Subscriptions early release program by filling out the opt-in form.
Can I change the name of my shipping labels in the checkout?
No. This is a Shopify limitation, Shopify assigns a general title of Shipping to all shipping rates that apply to subscription orders.
Note: Due to a Shopify limitation, checkout orders and recurring orders have different shipping titles. Checkout orders have Subscription Shipping as their shipping title, while recurring orders display the labeled shipping title. This includes shipping titles such as Standard, Expedited, Economy.
If you have any questions about compatibility, reach out to Recharge support and we'll be happy to help out.
