Setting up shipping for the Shopify Checkout Integration
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration set up and manage shipping settings directly in Shopify. Shopify is also responsible for troubleshooting any shipping issues that may arise. This guide goes through shipping settings for merchants on the Shopify Checkout Integration.
Refer to Shopify’s shipping guides or contact Shopify’s support directly for issues or questions regarding shipping settings with the Shopify Checkout Integration.
If you use the Recharge Checkout on Shopify or BigCommerce, refer to Configuring shipping settings.
Before you start
If you have migrated to the Shopify Checkout Integration, Recharge shipping rates may be used for recurring orders depending on your configuration. Refer to Shopify Checkout Integration technical details and requirements for more information.
Configure your shipping settings
Shopify Checkout Integration merchants set up and control shipping rates and settings in the Shopify Admin, and not within Recharge. The following settings are recommended in Shopify:
-
Use weight-based rates and use the same rates for both one-time products and subscription products. If you would like to offer different rates for one-time products and subscriptions, you must use Recharge's Shopify shipping profiles. See Using Shopify shipping profiles for more information.
- Recharge fully supports price-based rates. When using price-based rates, set minimum and maximum cart values for your flat-rate shipping. Refer to Shipping rates for configuration details.
Price-based shipping rates for recurring charges ensures the rates are based on the actual price the customer is paying. This includes the subscribe and save price and price overrides. Keep in mind that Shopify always selects the cheapest applicable rate for orders. If you want to assign a flat rate for recurring orders, you must apply a manual rate to your customers in Recharge.
Apply a manual shipping rate:
- Click the Customers tab in the merchant portal, then search and select customer.
- Within the customer account click the shipping method button.
- On the pop-up modal, click the Shipping method drop-down menu and select Manual.
- Fill in the manual shipping rate details and click Save.
See Editing shipping rates for an existing subscription for more information.
FAQ
What shipping settings do I set in Recharge?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration control their shipping settings in Shopify and do not have access to the Shipping settings page in Recharge unless the merchant is using Recharge's Shopify shipping profiles.
However, you have the ability to override shipping rates for a specific subscription, by manually switching customers' shipping rates. Refer to Override shipping rate for a specific subscription for more information.
Can I set up free shipping with the Shopify Checkout Integration?
Merchants using the Shopify Checkout Integration configure shipping via Shopify shipping settings. For setup details, see Offering free shipping on subscription orders.
To offer free shipping, refer to Shopify's article Setting free shipping as the default shipping rate.
Can I update the shipping rate for existing customers?
Yes, however, shipping rates are calculated dynamically, and the new rate will apply to the recurring order after the queued order. This is due to the queued order being created before the shipping rate was updated, therefore the old rate would still apply to the order.
To update the rate on the queued order, review editing shipping rates for existing subscriptions.
What happens if I remove a shipping rate or the existing subscriber's order no longer qualifies for a shipping rate?
Your orders will still process and ship even if they do not have any applicable shipping rates. If you would like orders to display an error instead of processing with a $0.00 shipping rate, reach out to Recharge support.
Are price-based shipping rates available for recurring orders?
Yes, if your store is on the Shopify Checkout Integration, configure price-based shipping via the Shopify shipping settings. Price-based shipping rates for recurring charges are now based on the actual price the customer is paying - this includes subscribe-and-save prices and price overrides. Refer to Shopify's Shipping rates for more information.
Can I use Shopify Shipping Profiles?
Yes. Shopify Checkout Integration stores can use Shopify shipping profiles with Recharge. For more details, see Using Shopify shipping profiles.
Can I offer different shipping rates for subscriptions vs. one-time products?
Yes. If you're interested in offering free shipping on subscriptions and not for one-time products, use Recharge's Shopify shipping profiles. See Using Shopify shipping profiles for more information.
Can I change the name of my shipping labels in the checkout?
Due to Recharge's price-based shipping update, Recharge now passes Subscription Shipping as the shipping title for all checkout and recurring orders. Recharge will no longer display Standard, Expedited, or Economy.
