Periodically, you may find you need to update your product prices or re-adjust the price for a single customer. This guide outlines how to update the price of subscription products for both new and existing customers.
Changing the price for new customers
Recharge Checkout on Shopify
If you update the price of your products in your ecommerce platform, you will also need to resync your products in Recharge. This will ensure that the subscriptions on your product page reflect the new price.
- In the merchant portal, select Products.
- Locate the product that needs to be updated.
- Select Sync from the Actions drop-down menu to update the subscription product.
Shopify Checkout Integration
To update the subscription price for new customers, update the product price directly on the product details page in Shopify. Once the product price has been updated in Shopify, the new price will apply to all new customers in Recharge.
Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
Syncing subscription products is not required when using the Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce as all product data is kept in sync between the two platforms.
Changing the price for existing customers
By default, if you update your product price on the ecommerce platform, existing subscribers will still be subscribed to the old price. If you need to update the subscription price of a few existing customers, you can manually change the price of an existing customer.
Go to the Customers tab in the merchant portal and search for and select the customer. Expand the Subscriptions tab and click the product that is changing price.
On the product subscription page under Subscription product choose Edit subscription product. Enter the new Recurring price. Be sure to click Save.
Bulk updating the price for existing subscriptions
There are three methods for adjusting the subscription expiration in bulk. The method you should use is determined by your store's platform. Review the methods below and select the method based on the platform your store uses.
Method 1 - Bulk Managing Subscriptions tool
Merchants on the Recharge Checkout on Shopify can use the Bulk Managing Subscriptions tool to update the subscription expiration without any intervention from Recharge. To process this type of update you will need to complete the Importing Subscriptions template with:
Export Subscriptions - All or Subscriptions - Active from the Data section in the merchant portal to gather the required information for the update template.
All other columns from the template can be removed.
Method 2 - Recharge Bulk Updater tool
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Shopify Checkout Integration
You can use the Recharge Bulk Updater Tool to make bulk updates to subscriptions for existing customers. For more information review the Bulk Updater Tool guide.
Method 3 - Bulk update via Recharge Support
- Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce
- Shopify Checkout Integration
If you have 50 or more subscription products to update, the Recharge support team can facilitate a bulk update for you. You will need to prepare a CSV file with updated information and send it to the support team. Please accommodate 5 business days to complete the update.
- In merchant portal, select Exports.
- Click Create export and select the Subscriptions - All export from the drop-down.
- In the CSV, add an additional column at the far right called NEW Price.
- Fill in the column with the new price.
You only need to fill in the rows that will be receiving the update. Rows not receiving an update should be removed from the file.
- When finished, send the CSV to the Recharge support team.
