Troubleshooting the subscription widget and product pages
This guide explains some of the common issues that may come up when working with the subscription widget, subscription rules, and product pages.
- Recharge Checkout on Shopify
- Shopify Checkout Integration
- '%NaN' shows up in the subscription widget
- I updated the price of the product in Shopify but the product page is reflecting the old price
- I accidentally deleted the hidden auto-renew product in Shopify and now the subscription is not working
- The subscription widget is appearing on my one-time products
- Add to cart button is missing for a product that is no longer found in Recharge
- Frequency translations are not visible on existing product pages after modifying the subscription widget
- Customers are seeing the error message "Variant can only be purchased with a selling plan" when trying to check out with a subscription product.
'%NaN' shows up in the subscription widget
This can occur when a subscription product has been duplicated to create a one-time item or if you have not re-synced your product.
If the item is a subscription item, re-sync your product.
If the item is a one-time product, you need to temporarily add it to Recharge, save the product, then remove it from Recharge. This will remove the subscription metafields that display the subscription widget.
I updated the price of the product in Shopify but the product page is reflecting the old price
Every time you update the price of the product or variants in Shopify, you need to resync your subscription product rules. For instruction on how to resync your product, visit Syncing subscription products with Recharge Checkout on Shopify.
I accidentally deleted the hidden auto-renew product in Shopify and now the subscription is not working
If you removed the hidden auto-renew product from one or all the subscription products in Shopify, you need to resync your products in Recharge. This will recreate the hidden products in Shopify.
The subscription widget is appearing on my one-time products
If you copy or duplicate a subscription product to create another product, it will also duplicate the associated meta fields. Recharge uses these meta fields to determine which products should be offered on subscription. This will result in the subscription widget appearing on one-time products, even if they are not available in Recharge.
To fix this issue, temporarily add the one-time product to Recharge and then delete it by selecting the Actions drop-down next to the product and clicking Remove from Recharge.
Add to cart button is missing for a product that is no longer found in Recharge
If you notice that the add to cart button is missing for a product that is removed from Recharge, you can easily resolve this by adding the product back to Recharge and then removing the product. This will force a resync to ensure that the subscription metafields are removed from the product.
If the issue persists, please reach out to the Recharge support team.
Frequency translations are not visible on existing product pages after modifying the subscription widget
Please contact the Recharge support team if you notice that the subscription widget has not changed even after updating the frequency translations in your subscription widget settings in the merchant portal.
Customers are seeing the error message "Variant can only be purchased with a selling plan" when trying to check out with a subscription product.
When you add a product to Recharge, an additional Subscriptions section is shown in the Product page in Shopify. This section includes the option to only allow purchase of this product as a subscription. This option is enabled by default when a product is set up as subscription-only in Recharge.
The error message "Variant can only be purchased with a selling plan" is displayed to customers when they try to check out with a product that is set to subscription only, and the subscription widget is unpublished. Publishing the subscription widget will prevent customers from seeing this error message.
You can set the product to both One-time and subscription in Recharge to allow customers to check out with the product as a one-time purchase if the subscription widget is disabled.
