The Recharge app is compatible with Shopify and BigCommerce. If you would like to use Recharge with other sites, it will require the use of your eCommerce storefront or custom code. This guide provides an overview of compatibility and suggested workarounds.
Compatibility with Shopify
Recharge integrates directly into Shopify. When a customer makes a subscription purchase, parameters are passed to the cart page that signals that the product is a recurring subscription.
At this time, Recharge only works with the Online Store sales channel. Other sales channels — such as Facebook, point-of-sale, and Buy Button — are not currently compatible.
The checkout you use will differ depending on when you installed Recharge.
Recharge Checkout on Shopify
Shopify merchants who installed Recharge on or before November 1st, 2020, utilize the Recharge Checkout to process subscriptions. The Recharge Checkout is fully featured and will continue to be supported as we develop new integrations. For more information, visit Getting started with Recharge.
Shopify Checkout Integration
Shopify merchants who installed Recharge after November 1st, 2020 utilize the Shopify Checkout to process their subscription orders.
Compatibility with BigCommerce
Recharge has recently released a new integration, currently in early release, for merchants who want to use our platform on BigCommerce. Merchants can sign up to join our BigCommerce early release through the app listing or learn more with our Getting started on BigCommerce guide.
Compatibility with other sites
The Recharge app will only work out-of-the-box directly on your Shopify or BigCommerce storefront. It does not integrate with sites like Facebook, WordPress, Squarespace, or other eCommerce sites.
If you use Shopify or BigCommerce and would like for customers to be able to purchase subscription products from your Facebook page or your WordPress site, we recommend linking directly to your product page on Shopify or BigCommerce. This will allow customers to navigate to your site where they may place their subscription orders correctly via the Recharge Checkout.
If you are use another eCommerce platform and interested in building a custom integration, view Develop a custom integration with Recharge.
Add subscription links from external landing pages
Though Recharge does not integrate directly with Shopify's Buy Button, you can create your own version using custom code. Using AJAX, you can link customers directly to the checkout with a subscription product in the cart. You will need to combine the directions from the following guides:
Develop a custom integration with Recharge
You can build your own custom Recharge integration if you require compatibility with an unsupported eCommerce platform. Recharge can also be incorporated with your existing enterprise resource planning or product information management software. Learn more by visiting our API Reference and Developer Docs.
