We are proud to announce the beta stage of Apple Pay!
It's currently only available to a select pool of beta testers. We plan to release this to everyone soon, so stay tuned!
What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service created by Apple. ReCharge now supports Apple Pay for mobile checkouts in conjunction with Stripe as a payment processor.
How Do I Enable Apple Pay?
First, you’ll need to use Stripe as a payment processor. See our guide for more information on how to set up Stripe.
Once ReCharge detects that you're using Stripe for payment processing, you'll see the option to enable Apple Pay in the Checkout settings under Checkout page controls.
The standard ReCharge checkout URL (http://checkout.rechargeapps.com) has been verified and does not need further action to begin using Apple Pay.
If your checkout has a custom domain, you’ll need to authorize it within your Stripe account.
Using Apple Pay
Once you have enabled Apple Pay, your customers will see the Apple Pay option when checking out with an iOS mobile device.
This connects to their Apple Pay account and will automatically pull information to complete the checkout process. The customer will see the Apple Pay overlay and select checkout information from there.
Managing a Subscription with Apple Pay
Your customers will see that their subscription payment is associated with Apple Pay when they look at the billing information in their customer portal.
Note: If customers change their billing details in their Apple wallet, it will not have any impact on their ReCharge recurring billing. ReCharge will continue to charge the original card associated with Apple Pay during their initial checkout.
To update their billing information, customers will need to switch to a different credit card via their ReCharge customer portal.
Apple Pay does not have an area for inputting discount codes. Your customers will need to follow the usual steps to add a discount code during checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Apple Pay if Braintree or Authorize.net is my payment processor?
No—at this time, we only support Apple Pay via Stripe.
Can a user checkout using Apple Pay on desktop?
Apple Pay will also work for customers running a Mac with the Safari browser.
Why am I still being charged on my old Apple Pay credit card?
ReCharge uses the credit card associated with Apple Pay during checkout. Customers need to switch to a new credit card via their Customer Portal if this card has changed. Changes made in the Apple Wallet will not automatically be reflected in ReCharge billing.
