Applying discounts during checkout

You can provide discount codes for many reasons, from loyalty to seasonal sales to limited-time promotions. This guide will go through how to apply discount codes to subscription products during checkout.

Before you start

• For Recharge Checkout on BigCommerce and Shopify stores, discount codes intended for subscription products only work in the Recharge checkout. Before you enter a discount code in checkout, double-check that the URL contains checkout.rechargeapps.com:
• BigCommerce Checkout Integration stores can use native BigCommerce discount codes during checkout, including coupons and automatic discounts. Discount codes used during checkout must be configured in the BigCommerce admin portal.

Using discounts in the Recharge Checkout

To add a discount code to your subscription order:

1. Add any products you intend to purchase into your cart, including the subscription product(s) applicable to the discount.
2. Navigate to the store's cart page and click Checkout.
3. Locate the Order Summary box on the right side of the page, and click on Have a discount code? Enter it here.
   
4. Type in your discount code and click OK. If the code is valid, it will deduct the discount from your order total.
   
5. Complete checkout by filling in your shipping address and payment details.

Using discounts in the BigCommerce Checkout

Discount codes used at checkout must be configured in the BigCommerce admin portal. See BigCommerce's Coupon Codes guide for information on configuring discounts. 

After configuring your BigCommerce discounts, customers can enter discounts in their cart or at checkout. 

Refer to the following steps to add a discount code to a subscription order:

1. Add subscription products to your cart. 
2. From the cart or in the checkout, add your coupon code in the Coupon Code field.
3. Once entered, a successfully applied coupon reflects the discounted price.
   
4. Complete checkout by filling in your shipping address and payment details.
