- Click Storefront in your merchant portal and select Checkout.
- Check the box to Enable Google Pay under the Checkout page controls.
The standard Recharge checkout URL http://checkout.rechargeapps.com
has been verified and does not need further action to begin using Google Pay.
Use Google Pay
Once you have enabled Google Pay, your customers will see the Google Pay option when checking out using the Google Chrome browser, if they have enabled Google Pay and have Google Pay synced with Chrome. See the full criteria that a user must meet to use Google Pay.
When Google Pay is selected, the customer will be presented with subscription terms to review. When ready to pay, they can proceed by clicking the Google Pay button.
This button connects to their Google Pay account and will automatically pull information to complete the checkout process.
Manage a subscription with Google Pay
Your customers will see that their subscription payment is associated with Google Pay when they look at the billing information in their customer portal.
Note: If a customer changes their billing details in their Google Wallet, it will not have any impact on their Recharge recurring billing. Recharge will continue to charge the original card associated with Google Pay during their initial checkout. To update their billing information, customers will need to switch to a different credit card via their Recharge customer portal.
Add discounts at checkout
The Google Pay interface does not have an area for inputting discount codes. To enter a discount code, the customer will need to add the discount code in the Order Summary section of the checkout before selecting the Google Pay option.
FAQ
Can I use Google Pay with Braintree or Authorize.net as my payment processor?
No, at this time, the Google Pay integration is only available with Stripe.
Can a customer checkout using Google Pay on desktop?
Yes. As long as the customer is using the Google Chrome browser and has Google Pay enabled on their browser, they can use Google Pay on a desktop device.
Why doesn't Google Pay display as a payment method for some customers?
The user must meet the following criteria for Google Pay to display as a payment option:
- Using Chrome 61 or newer.
- A saved payment card.
- The saved card needs to contain some user information (i.e. a card holder name, future expiration date).
- Google Pay must be connected to their Chrome browser.
My international customers aren't seeing the Google Pay button, what's wrong?
Google Pay is currently only available to customers in a select number of countries. Recharge is working on adding more countries to this list to help meet the global demand.
Why am I still being charged on my old Google Pay credit card?
Recharge uses the credit card associated with Google Pay during checkout. Customers need to switch to a new credit card via their customer portal if this card has changed. Changes made in the Google Wallet will not automatically be reflected in Recharge billing.
Can I adjust the subscription terms customers see before proceeding to payment?
You can adjust the subscription terms on the Legal settings page in Recharge.
Can I translate the 'How will you be paying today?' text?
At the moment, this text cannot be updated. However, future improvements to the feature will allow the Google Pay subscription disclaimer to be edited.
