Using Shopify shipping profiles
Shopify Shipping profiles allow you to create shipping rates for specific products. This allows you to offer per product shipping depending on the product, and where you're shipping to and from.
With Shopify shipping profiles you can also set different shipping rates for your subscription products. This guide takes you through how to use shipping profiles with Recharge.
- Shopify Shipping profiles are only available for Shopify merchants using the Recharge Checkout on Shopify and basic shipping rates (Get all rates from Shopify).
- If you are using the Shopify Checkout Integration, refer to Setting up shipping for the Shopify Checkout Integration.
Access Shopify shipping profiles
- Select Settings in your Shopify admin.
- Select Shipping and delivery.
- Locate the Custom shipping rates section to access Shipping profiles.
Configure specific rates for subscription products only
You can use Shopify shipping profiles to set a different shipping rate for your subscription products only. You may want to use this method to offer free shipping.
Step 1 - Create the shipping profile
- From your Shopify shipping settings select Create new profile under Custom shipping rates.
- Add a name for your Shipping profile and select Add products.
- Select the auto-renew version of each product that you want to include in this rate.
- Click Done.
- Optional step: If you ship products from multiple locations, select Manage under Shipping from to determine which location to ship this product from. Otherwise, your default location will be selected automatically.
The shipping rate you set will only apply to the products you have selected. Since the auto-renew subscription product, and not the original non-subscription product, goes through the Recharge Checkout, it will qualify for this shipping rate.
Step 2 - Specify the shipping rate
- Select Create shipping zone under Shipping to. Enter a name for the shipping zone and choose the countries you would like to ship your subscription products to. Click Done to save your selection.
- Select Add rate to create the shipping rate.
- Choose Set up your own rates.
- Add a rate name and set the price customers will pay for shipping.
- Click Done.
Click Save once you are finished creating your shipping profile. Your new rate will now be listed under Custom shipping rates in your Shopify shipping settings.
Follow the steps again to create a separate shipping profile for the original, non-subscription product.

Shipping profiles with Shopify Checkout Integration
If you are using the Shopify Checkout Integration, setting price-based rates or using shipping profiles is not recommended. Refer to Setting up shipping for the Shopify Checkout Integration for your configuration. If you decide to use shipping profiles, take beta testing precautions since edge cases or unexpected issues can arise.
