Metrics
Our KPI dashboard details key metrics, including brand new metrics such as our Customer Order Sequence visualizer.
Timeline metrics
Timeline metrics display store data from both Shopify and ReCharge over the past 12 complete months.
Timeline metrics are separated to compare subscription and one-time purchases, as well as a specific subscription only data.
Subscription and Onetime Combined
These data points relate to subscription orders processed in ReCharge, and one-time orders processed in Shopify.
Metric | Data displayed in the dashboard |
Gross Sales | Total amount of sales processed over the past 12 complete months. |
Orders per Customer | The average number of orders a customer will place in their lifetime as a customer. |
Average Order Value (AOV) | The average cost of an order per customer for subscription and one-time orders combined. |
Average Customer Value (ACV) | The average amount a customer will spend in their lifetime for both subscription and one-time orders. |
Subscription Only
These data points relate to your subscription data only and are based on information from orders processed in ReCharge.
Metric | Data displayed in the dashboard |
Active Customers | The total number of customers with one or more active subscriptions as of yesterday. |
Active Subscriptions | The total number of active subscriptions as of yesterday. |
Monthly Churn Rate | The percentage of customers who've canceled their subscription in the past complete month. Refer to the Revenue Trends dashboard for additional churn rate metrics. |
Monthly Recurring Revenue | The average revenue for the last complete month. |
KPIs Subscription and Onetime
The KPIs Subscription and Onetime data tables display data based on the customer category, allowing you to see the relationship between your subscription and one-time customers.
Metric | Data displayed in the dashboard |
Customer Category |
Customers are segmented into the following three categories to better understand purchasing behavior:
Customer categories are based on all-time ReCharge and Shopify Online Store orders on or after August 1st, 20109. |
Total Gross Amount | Gross sales for the specific customer categories in the past 12 months. This amount is reflective of the product price only and does not take taxes, shipping discounts, or refunds into consideration. |
Orders | The total number of orders processed for each customer in the segment in the past 12 complete months. |
Customers | The total number of customers in each segment over the past 12 complete months. |
Orders per Customer | The average number of orders each customer purchased over the past 12 complete months. |
Gross AOV | The average order value in the past 12 complete months for customers in each segment. |
Gross ACV | The average customer value in the past 12 complete months for customers in each segment. |
ACV Multiplier |
Compare the ACV across each customer category. For example, if the ACV for Onetime only customers is $138, and the ACV for subscription only customers is @210, we can use the ACV Multiplier column to determine that our subscription only customers are 1.5 times more valuable than our onetime customer. |
Other data tables
Additional data tables available on the KPI dashboard allow you to visualize your customer breakdown and compare data across categories.
Table | Data displayed in the dashboard |
Gross sales | A comparison of the monthly gross sales between the three different customer categories. |
Customers | A percentage breakdown of the customers segmented into each customer category. |
Average Customer Value (ACV) | A comparison of the ACV between the three different customer categories. |
Customer Order Sequence |
The average customer's journey over their first five orders. This metric provides insights into customers who are switching from subscriptions to one-time products, or vice-versa, or customers who are dropping off after their first order. |
Caveats
Shopify and ReCharge can process data in slightly different ways as our Analytics suites are independent of each other. We've outlined some potential caveats to be aware of as you interact with the KPI dashboard.
Customers
Your customers may have only ReCharge orders, only Shopify orders, or both ReCharge and Shopify orders depending on their shopping history.
Orders
Orders can only occur through the Shopify checkout, or the ReCharge checkout, but cannot go through both.
ReCharge will only create an order in Shopify for a product after we've received payment from the customer. In comparison, Shopify will allow you to create an order before it is paid for at all, or if you've only received partial payment.
Data presented in the KPI dashboard is based on when orders are created, in the ET timezone.
The KPI dashboard does not account for any orders process through any apps, such as OCU or CartHook, or any order processed outside of Shopify's Online Store, like through a draft order.
Prepaid orders
When a prepaid order is processed through the ReCharge checkout, we create the upcoming orders as queued orders in our database. Our Analytics suite counts the prepaid charge
For example, if a customer purchased a 6-month prepaid subscription for $300, we would record them as having one charge of $300, not 6 charges of $50.
While customers are charged the total amount upfront when purchasing a prepaid subscription, we only send the order information to Shopify on the order date for each individual order in the subscription.
Charges
The KPI dashboard reports on successful charges only, although some of these charges may have been refunded.
The KPI dashboard does not report on any error, queued, or skipped charges.
